BNBBOOK.CGI: THE EASY AND FLEXIBLE GUEST BOOK
Security Update: January 24, 2000. Posting length is now limited to 4,000 characters to prevent MSIE 5.0 bug from locking up the browser when sent a very long line.

  • Introduced September 7, 1998
  • By: BigNoseBird.Com
  • Price: Freeware
  • For: Unix and Windows 95/98/NT (using blat.exe)
11-02-2002: Now validates email addresses with TLDs with four character values such as .info and .name
  • View the Script (an easy way for my Mac friends to get the script!)
  • View the Readme File
  • Browse the Directory (Note: you can't run the scripts from the directory, view bnbbook.txt to see the script)
Be sure to upload the bnbbook.cgi file as ASCII if you are moving the script from either a PC or Mac to a Unix server. If you have problems with the script, please check out the Script Troubleshooting Page before writing.

Script Rating:
10 is Excellent

Features

  • Autorespond letter to signer
  • Sends you e-mail of their entry
  • Filters out your list of dirty words
  • Domain check to prevent offsite calling of the script
  • Newest entry at top of the book
  • Easy to modify letters and guestbook entry formats
  • Handles 'private' messages
  • Allows for signers to use HTML
  • Tired of having your book trashed because of a blown tag? The script performs a very rudimentary HTML test. If there are not an even number of <>" the signer has to correct the entry.
  • Removes all HTML comments to prevent SSI hacks
  • You can have the script MUNG e-mail address to foil spam-spiders
  • Captures their IP address as a comment in the guestbook
  • You can specify required entry fields
  • Automatic redirect to guestbook after signing
  • Validates E-mail address formatting, and warns you in the subject not to reply if it looks fake. If fake, no autoresponse is sent!
  • Converts easily to 95/98/NT using the blat.exe mail handler.
After moving this tar (tape archive) file to a temp directory, issue the command:

tar xvf bnbbook.tar
Then follow the instructions contained in the README.TXT file.
